Return to Consciousness
posted by Norm on April 22nd, 2005 • filed under School, Site InfoI’m sitting in one of the several campus CS labs right now (the ICU, actually, which is vastly inferior to the Language lab I normally inhabit, although somewhat above the Sci-Fi lab) attempting to steer my roommate through the terrors of his final Java assignment. It’s actually somewhat enlightening and a lot amusing; there’s something different about the way programmers think and the way normal people think. I haven’t quite identified what that difference is, but it’s definitely there.
Anyway, I’m sitting in this lab and typing up this post in OpenOffice, which actually isn’t nearly as terrible a thing as you might suppose, but mostly I’m just trying to figure out where the hell April went. I honestly don’t know. I’ve been running nonstop for the last four weeks or so trying desperately to finish up all the projects I have going this semester. This week was particularly terrible, and in reality I’m not actually done. I still have an essay to do for Tuesday and a bunch of documentation to finish for my final Team Software project meeting this Sunday, in addition to my Operating Systems final exam on Wednesday night. However, the last few weeks were like swinging with a weighted bad and the remaining load feels so paltry as to be barely worthy of note.
This post should hopefully signal my re-entry into the human race and a re-establishment of communication with people who aren’t in my project groups. I’m planning to stay up in Houghton for about a week after my finals finish, at which point I’ll head back down to Novi in time to catch the Tigers vs. Red Sox game with Pat two weeks from now. After that it’s back to work at dreaded Siemens, although it’s probably not fair to say I dread a place that’s going to pay me. Really, I’m just bitter because my quest to find a corporation that will send me checks while I sit at home and read hasn’t bore fruit.
Oh, I also started a new site design a few months ago during a night of particularly terrible insomnia (I had to do something with the time) that I haven’t even looked at since. Yes, I know I never actually finished implementing the current design, but that’s mostly because I was never all that happy with it in the first place. I already ran the design by Jeff and Pontus…who I also never e-mailed back, I just realized, how awesome of me. They seemed to like it, or at least to not hate it, which is good enough for me to present it to the public at large. Feel free to tell me what you think.
