Web Design Portfolio

This portfolio includes a small sample of the designs I’ve created over the past eight years or so. Note that none of them are finalized, functional sites — instead, they’re snapshots meant to represent look and feel of each site. Some of these designs eventually went into production and were used live on the web while others (most notably that long lost Plaristocrates design!) were created but never used.

As these samples demonstrate, my design skills lean towards clean layouts and sparing use of images. This is done to reduce turnaround time for site changes (such as re-coloring or re-organizing) as well as to keep page weight as low as possible – fewer images means faster load times and less stress on your servers. However, this is certainly not a personal requirement – if images are what you desire, images are what I will deliver! As an experienced designer I am capable of adjusting to your expectations and creating a site that perfectly fits you or your business’ online persona.

Hopefully these samples help demonstrate my skills and commitment to excellent design and strict adherence to modern web standards and semantic design principles. If you have any questions or would like access to additional samples, work history or any other bits of information please don’t hesitate to e-mail me. Alternately, you may peruse my resumé to have a general look at my employment history and unique experiences.

This was one of the first designs for Plaristocrates that made full, proper use of the emerging XHTML1.1 standard, CSS2.0 and semantic design. It was also, no doubt as a result of these facts, the longest used design in the history of the site. The Hokkaido theme (as it is known) was particularly effective at evoking a softer, more thoughtful feeling (as opposed to Roppongi, the current design).

A design for Plaristocrates that never saw the light of day, this was an attempt at a dynamically resizing full-width design. Though it works quite well the Okinawa theme, as this design is named, was being worked on concurrently with the Roppongi theme (the one currently in use on this site). In the end I chose Roppongi over Okinawa because the bolder colors and fixed-width design were more appealing at the time.

This design was created for a guild in the popular MMORPG game Final Fantasy XI Online. It was conceived to be somewhat whimsical and snarky in nature as this mirrored the persona the group projected in the game. I decided to prominently feature the guild’s logo since it was both humorous and strongly iconic. This design also features prodigious use of rounded corners and image borders.

A quick and dirty design for a quick and dirty event, this site was purposefully created to feel rough and simple. Game Jams are events where participants are tasked with rapidly prototyping game design concepts in the space of 24-48 hours. Being marathon, indie events they focus on substance over style and I thought the site should mirror those sensibilities.

Carby.org was a personal project that I eventually shelved. It was conceived as a “news weblog” in the style of Gawker and the design was tailored to meet those requirements. It conveys a requisite level of professionalism without descending into highly sterile, corporate design territories. This is a design I hope revisit at a later date, perhaps with a different project in mind.
